i just saw the tag “canon complicit” instead of “canon compliant” and im laughing its like “canon is a criminal act that i unfortunately support with this fic”
The Three Grades:
Canon Compliant: “This fic goes along with canon.” (Because I like it? Because I’m too tired to disagree by writing my own fic? Who knows? The author may or may not tell us.)
Canon Compatible: “Listen, I know it ISN’T canon, but think of it as Microsoft Office for Mac, it’s COMPATIBLE with canon, and that counts.”
Canon Complicit: “I have not died a hero, so I have become an accessory to the Villainy of Canon.”
Canon Compatible is a great term for when your fic is Probably Not What Tolkien Would Have Wanted but it doesn’t really contradict anything in canon either
I hate how the whole show makes Crosshair look like the bad guy.
They make everything about him seem intimidating. His armor, the way he talks and rarely removes his helmet. Every time we see him he’s on a mission.
Even when he meets Hunter, Hunter looks at him like Crosshair is the bad guy.
“I figured you’d be here.”
This means he knew Crosshair was there and he wanted to avoid him. Why’s that?
You don’t want your biggest mistake to look you in the eye? You don’t want to see how they turned him into a shadow of himself? You could live with your failure when you didn’t have to see him but not now?
Why didn’t they try to save Crosshair earlier? Why is HE the one that has to go after them? He can’t help it. He has no choice. And I hate how the show doesn’t highlight this.
But the bad batch had a choice. And they chose not to help him again and again and again.

From over here in Europe: YES. This is a very serious issue. Capitalism and white supremacy are very capable of incorporating
the most privileged
gay men, and potentially the most privileged lesbian, bi and trans people too, into their system, to reward their assimilation with privilege and receive support for their shitty politics in return.
White abled middle class gay men are the most sensitive to this because they are one step away from enjoying all the privileges of the system, and it is very tempting for them to belief that people exactly like them are the allies, while people not like them - refugees, muslims, trans people, working class people, angry social justice activists - are the enemies. But they’re not the only ones for whom this mode of thinking is tempting.
Gay racists, gay conservatives, gay fascists are a real threat. Address it in your LGBT and queer places. Talk about it. Be prepared to fight it if it is already in your space. If left unaddressed it will destroy everything you care about.
